Strong Language, 2026

Overscaled typographic forms are rendered on canvas and plywood, cropped by the boundaries of each support. The works suggest language without resolving into legible text—centralizing fragments of familiar letterforms that resist completion.

The viewer navigates the work through recognition and association, occupying an active interpretive role within what remains intentionally incomplete.

Informed by a background in communication design and architectural wayfinding, the work draws on typographic systems developed for clarity at scale—ship hulls, hangars, and industrial surfaces—while suspending their function.

Hand-painted black-and-white fields retain evidence of process, with subtle disruptions that counter their graphic precision. The series begins monochromatically and extends into ongoing studies of colour and contrast.
